Scholes Cricket Club First Team v Delph & Dobcross on Sat 04 Jul 2015 at 13:30
Scholes Cricket Club Won 6 Points
Match report
Delph and Dobcross (239 all out) lost to Scholes (260 for 9) by 21 runs
In the end this splendid game of cricket at one of my favourite grounds came down to self belief, something Scholes seem to have oodles of in this magnificent season. Delph had scored 270 or above in their last 5 home games I was reliably informed half way through, after we'd posted a respectable 260 for 9, hmmmm game on then. And Delph should have won, after Lancashire's Lilley accompanied by the clean hitting Khurshid launched a brutal counter attacking 6th wicket partnership of around a hundred, utilising a very short top end boundary and which took them to within 60 runs of victory with 11 overs left. But then Lilley played one too many shot and skied Chadwick to the safe hands of Carter running back from cover to perish for 80, having already hit a six and four in the over. Khurshid (43) also fell by the sword heaving mightily to be castled by the golden arm of Chadwick, and the game was over in a jiffy as Jamies prediction to me earlier on came true..."we just keep losing wickets in big clumps at the end, even when we win", and Delph subsided to 239 all out.
Earlier on Delph bowled tight lines and lengths and only Carter threatened to break the shackles, until he played on to the excellent Khurshid for 77. Toby Booth made yet another important 39, and Noble's 33 and Boorman's 29* were testimony to the length and depth of this Scholes batting line up at 7 and 8 respectively.
Cracking win against a good team at a fine old ground in beautiful Lancashire...and my the chip muffin was good!
