I couldn't get over to Swallow Lane as I was training up new bar staff much to my chagrin, but even more unfortunate were Lee and Chimp who came back before it started cos of the gloom and cold, thus missing the rarest display of batting pyrotechnics by Joe Carter. I rang Bubbles half way through and he had no idea of the score except "it's a lot" and then said "that's absolutely huge" several times as Joe smashed balls over the clubhouse and houses at the other end....huge indeed. For the record his first 50 came in 41 balls, second fifty in 16 balls and third fifty in 12 balls as he made an extraordinary 163, taking Jack Hargreaves apart as his 6 overs went for 101 runs. Pete Drysdale's positive 73 actually started the ball rolling, as only Cobba's miserly off spin escaped the carnage.
Golcar understandably fell 100 runs short as light rain fell with Cobba making 80.
