Scholes Cricket Club First Team v Delph & Dobcross on Sat 18 Apr 2015 at 13:00
Scholes Cricket Club Won 6 Points
Match report
Saturday 18th April Scholes 178 all out beat Delph and Dobcross 155 all out by 23 runs
This was a fabulous start to what promises to be an exciting season in the gorgeous spring sunshine at a busy Chapelgate. 2013 League batting prize winner Joe Carter has returned after playing first class all summer in New Zealand, as has the admirable and prolific Pete Drysdale, and it's great to have the talented and home grown Tommy Boorman finally back from his Antipodean travels.
We now have real depth in batting and bowling, especially once Tom Brook returns next weekend.
This Delph team are completely without brusson, but with Lilley and Buckley playing still have plenty of firepower and will win plenty of games this season.
Batting first both Scholes Kiwi's looked in great nick, as Drysdale made a positive 33 and Carter a super classy 58, but both fell lbw to Buckley and Scholes fell away quickly to 178 all out despite Noble's solid 22*. I thought Qasim was the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 34 off his whippy 12 overs.
Probably not enough we thought, but an inspired Adam France blew away Delph's top three, including Buckley for only 5, who was breathtakingly caught at midwicket by Chadwick. Lancashire's Lilley (51) and Laker (31) threatened to take it away from Scholes, but Josh Brook's medium pace inswing proved mightily effective on a low track, as did "Flat Jack" Boorman's zippy off spin as Delph declined dramatically in front of a happily imbibing crowd to 155 all out and the Scholes second string bowlers shared six belting wickets between them.
