Skelmanthorpe v Scholes Cricket Club First Team on Sat 02 Aug 2014 at 1:30pm
Scholes Cricket Club Won 5 Points
Match report
Despite the desperately doom laden weather forecast I enjoyed a splendiferous afternoons cricket on Saturday, taking in Scholes Thirds v the Second XI at Chapelgate (That would be Shat Seconds with eight!! ex Scholeser's in it)first half, and I then perambulated over to Lidget Lane after tea for an exciting denoument to the First XI scrap.
As big Joe Hinchliffe huffed and puffed, cajoling his title chasing recruits forever onwards Scholes recovered from 38 for 4 to 161 all out, a fair effort indeed. Eden Pearson was the star, all fast hands, timing and broad shoulders, a heady cocktail that allows him to hit a very long ball indeed. "Sauce" smashed his way to a scintillating 75 losing several balls on the way (Just a small grumble but it does seem that the younger element in second team cricket deem it beneath themselves to actually help in the search for lost balls) and was given gritty support by skipper Josh Brook who made 28, until Umpire Dickinson, ignoring Umbeda waving his bat above his head to signify a huge inside edge, turning his back on his own daughter running out from making teas shouting "I heard that edge dad", and very bravely blanking Cheryl Booth who detected the snick in her living room at deep square leg while watching Come Dine With Me, took an age before raising his crooked finger to fire Josh back to the pavilion, "palpably lbw" as he insisted in the clubhouse later on.
Shat knocked 'em off with only one down with Fletcher unfortunately making a very good 60 odd.
So it was up to Lidget Lane where they were having a black tie posh do after the game and rolled out the red carpet towards the end - I thought it was for Pete "Rupert" Drysdale whose perfectly judged season's best unbeaten 106 won the game for Scholes as they successfully chased down a challenging 185 for 7 in a 32 over game. The superb Irfan Amjad had crunched a high class 77 and was ably supported by Luke Webster's lusty 49, as Adam France picked up a slightly expensive 5 for 70 from his 9 overs. The popular Drysdale was given beautifully measured support by the fast maturing Toby Booth whose 43 was worth it's weight in gold, and skipper Tom Brook who battered three enormous straight sixes off the portly Crossland in one over in his quickfire 22. So Scholes won by 5 wickets with an over to spare, to stay in third place in the Premiership, 12 points clear of Shat, and yes Mr Cummins, that "shower" did beat you, and your contribution was a golden duck and going for 51 in your seven overs. Ooops!!
