Captains' Update

18 Mar 2021

THE COUNTDOWN IS ON

  • We have finally been given the go ahead for the season to start on the 17th April. Many of you will be pleased to know that you can drink outside and watch the cricket again! The season will start with a reduced overs format, with the first team playing 40 overs and the second team playing 35 overs. The league hope that we will return to normal length games on June 21st.
  • New Netting Facilities – Lee and his team have taken on the task of upgrading the training facilities we have at the mighty SCC. With a full refurb going ahead we are aiming to have top of the range nets, ready to use within the first few weeks of the season. We have been lucky enough to receive sponsorship from a number people linked with the club. We would like to thank Marshy, Lee Elvidge, Paul Sharkey, Cook Construction, Cooper & Battye Builders, Richard Pearson Wealth Management and Firth Fencing who have kindly helped to get the ball rolling with this project. The club will also be making a sizeable contribution. We are now approximately half way towards our target of £5,500 to complete the refurb. If you know of anyone who would be interested in helping us reach this target it will be greatly appreciated.
  • The senior teams will both have new kit for the upcoming season. Lou & Joes Burger Co and HB Surfacing have kindly sponsored this so the lads look fresh for the first few games of the season. Unfortunately, this won't contribute to making an ugly bunch more aesthetically pleasing, or make them any better at cricket.
  • Lee, Chimp, Marshy, Mark, Milkman and a number of others (we hope we haven’t missed anybody) have been working hard on the ground to get it ready for April 17th. Coddy has also been rebuilding the walls around the ground which has made a huge difference to Chapelgate. The players will be meeting on March 27th to help get the ground ready and although it is looking great we still have a lot to do and all volunteers will be welcomed.
  • All membership details are now available on the website and we will keep everyone as up to date as possible with club news via the site - scholescricketclub.hitssports.com, our Facebook group - Scholes Cricket Club (Holmfirth) [facebook.com] or Twitter - @Huddsscholescc [twitter.com]. Our All Stars sessions for 5 - 9 year olds will be live for new registrations from Monday 22nd.

1ST TEAM UPDATE

As we have finally had the go ahead from the league it is now full steam ahead at SCC to get the players involved and get the buzz back between the lads. We have managed to keep the same side as last year without losing anyone, even though we have had interest in our players. So far we have added Ashton Blakey to our squad who has joined us from Methley. Ashton comes with lot of Huddersfield and Bradford league experience and plans to slot into the middle order. He hopes to hit the ground running so let’s make sure we all welcome him to Chapelgate as I'm sure we will! We still hope to bring in 1/2 more players to improve our squad and will keep you posted on that. I have a positive feeling about this season as we have a good mix of players within the squad. With our experienced players and some good young talent, I’m sure we will be fighting towards the top of the league this season. Bruiser will be the 1st team vice-captain this year. With his wealth of knowledge both on and off the field he will be able to help develop the younger players as well as being a great help to me.

2ND TEAM UPDATE

At last, cricket and beer is back! All the lads cannot wait to get back playing and we are looking strong for the 2021 season. Josh Ankers will be helping me this year with the second team to really push and bring a trophy back to Chapelgate. Similar to the first team, we have some very experienced/old players and some great young lads coming through. We are now at a point where we have a strong bunch of lads who have been playing together at Scholes for a number of years, and some talented younger lads which is the perfect combination for second team cricket success. At the moment, we have no new additions, nor have we lost any players however we feel to be in a good position to support the first team and compete without having to drag in Bob Boorman to make up 11. We are still on the lookout for a scorer, so if anyone is interested please get in touch. UTS!

Please look out for our monthly updates on how our season is unfolding.

Wish us luck for 2021.

Cheers, Brad and Eede.
